Preparing for the iHOMIS Plus Transition: A Week of Hardware Assessment and Planning
Our week started with a meeting. The HOMIS team, led by Ma’am Annie, gathered for a brief discussion. The hospital is planning a major transition—from a locally based system to a web-based platform called iHOMIS Plus. This shift is a big change, as iHOMIS is managed by the Department of Health (DOH), and moving to the new system could be challenging, especially if the hospital’s existing hardware is outdated and incapable of handling the upgrade.
With this in mind, our primary task for the week was to conduct a hardware assessment across all hospital departments. We needed to check the PCs and laptops currently in use, count the number of users, and assess whether additional hardware or upgrades would be necessary to accommodate the new system.
I was assigned with Ma’am Lyca to assess laboratory areas throughout the hospital. We started our rounds, carefully inspecting the equipment in each section, noting the condition of the computers, network stability, and available storage space. We identified which units needed replacements and which ones were still functional but might require upgrades.
Once we finished our assessments, we assisted Sir Erickson and Sir Joseph with their hardware assessments in the wards. Since we had completed our rounds early, we helped inspect the computers in those areas, checked for any needed replacements or upgrades, and documented our findings to ensure a thorough evaluation across all hospital departments.
By Thursday, I compiled all our findings into a detailed report. The document included a list of outdated units, recommendations for replacements, and an overview of each department’s IT infrastructure. This report will be presented in next week’s meeting, where decisions will be made regarding the hardware upgrades and preparations for the transition to iHOMIS Plus.
Key takeaway ✨A system upgrade isn’t just about software—it heavily depends on hardware compatibility. Without the right infrastructure, even the most advanced system won't function efficiently. This week highlighted the importance of thorough assessment and planning to ensure a smooth transition for the hospital’s IT operations.✨
